Maniac Celebrates Life and Its Complications on Debut Full-Length
Vinyl Pre-Sale with Early Album Download Goes Live March 1
For Immediate Release
Oakland, C.A.—March 1, 2011- Maniac, the cross-continental indie/pop duo co-fronted by Shawn Harris, formerly of Oakland, California based-band the Matches, and Jake Grigg of Australian band Something with Numbers, will release their long-anticipated debut, MANIA, on March 15. An immediate digital download of the album comes with all vinyl preorders, on sale Monday, March 1, at 12 p.m. PST on the band’s official Web site, www.ManiacMania.com.
Produced by Maniac and Matt Radosevich (30 Seconds to Mars, The All American Rejects and the Matches), MANIA features 11 tracks recorded in America and Australia. The album’s first single, “Give It Up,” was added to Australia’s hit station Triple J this summer.
Maniac explore the highs and lows of life and love through a sound that’s got both a retro vibe but a thoroughly modern, unique twist.
There’s Love:
“You’ve got diamonds in your eyelids, so if you try and they misunderstand you, I’ll hold your hand through it all, cause I’d bet my life, bet my last dime on you.”
– “Whatever Twirls Ya World”
Failure:
“Gotta thank each mistake I was dumb enough to make…. In its place, I found your face.”
- “Thank Each Mistake”
Humor:
“You can’t run from your problems. That’s why we made ships and planes.”
- “Just Say Yes”
The previously produced Extended Play EP began the casting of Maniac’s charm on media. The track “Hey Love” was added to the 20-song playlist in all Hollister stores. Additionally, NYLON raved, “At their website, you can stream the duo’s self-titled EP in a totally original, interactive new way: their floating heads sing to you, and change instantly as you switch songs. Sound wacky? It definitely is. But after all, that’s why we love it.”
Live, Maniac consists of five members, including Shawn’s sister Vanessa on keyboard and vocals, and exudes a convivial energy that Sydney crowds have been quick to adopt. The band has begun fostering this same familial ethos in America by publicizing casual jam circles with friends and fans, where they will share harmonies and polyrhythmic percussion parts; encouraging the audience to take part on the night of the live show. Maniac has taken residency at various underground Los Angeles events in early 2011, such as the bizarre and titillating shows at Crazy Girls, L Bar, and the Silverlake Lounge.
